Volunteers are crucial to the success of Leyburn Jazz Festival, contributing to all aspects of planning and execution. Volunteering is an opportunity to be part of a vibrant arts community, develop new skills, and support the arts in a meaningful way.

Volunteers are essential ambassadors for the organisation, contributing to its friendly, supportive, and inclusive environment. Whether working on festival preparations or supporting events, volunteers play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and enjoyment of performers, participants, audience members, and fellow volunteers.

We don’t expect you to be an expert on day one! We value reliability, a friendly demeanour, and a willingness to get involved. If you enjoy working in a team and have a genuine interest in the arts, you’ll fit right in.

A Note on Safety: All roles involve maintaining a professional image and adhering to health and safety regulations to keep everyone safe.

Marketing & Outreach

Publicity Distribution

• The Vibe: Become the face of the festival across the Dales.

• The Goal: Ensure our posters and brochures are seen in all the right places, from cozy cafes to local libraries.

• What You’ll Do: Identify prime display locations, keep supplies replenished, and help with post-festival recycling.

• Where & When: Wensleydale, Swaledale, Wharfedale, Coverdale and surrounding areas from June through October.

Front of House: The Audience Experience

Entrance/Exit Safety Steward

• The Vibe: The guardian of the gateway.

• The Goal: Help guests navigate the venue safely, especially those with mobility requirements.

• What You’ll Do: Alert people to uneven steps, assist with portable ramps, and offer a friendly goodbye.

• Where: Performance venue.

• Commitment: 45 minutes before to 15 minutes after the performance.

Meet & Greet Staff

• The Vibe: The first friendly face our guests see.

• The Goal: Make every attendee feel respected and welcome from the moment they arrive.

• What You’ll Do: Direct guests to the registration desk, check names to speed up entry, and assist with mobility needs.

• Where: Performance venue.

• Commitment: 45 minutes before the performance starts.

Box Office & Registration

• The Vibe: The organised engine room of the event.

• The Goal: Efficiently process guests and maintain an accurate safety register.

• What You’ll Do: Register ticket holders, handle walk-in sales via cash or card, and manage event paperwork.

• Where: Performance venue.

• Commitment: 45 minutes before to 15 minutes after the performance. 

Event Steward

• The Vibe: The helpful guide.

• The Goal: Ensure the audience is seated promptly and safely for a positive experience.

• What You’ll Do: Check tickets, guide guests to seats, and monitor the crowd to prevent disturbances.

• Where: Performance venue.

• Commitment: 45 minutes before to 15 minutes after the performance.

Hospitality

Refreshments Staff

• The Vibe: Providing the "comfort" in community arts.

• The Goal: Keep the refreshments flowing and the atmosphere warm.

• What You’ll Do: Set up food and beverage stations, assist guests with self-service and making their payments, clean up the refreshment station after the performance and manage waste and rubbish.

• Where: Performance venue.

• When: 45 minutes before to 15 minutes after the performance.

Bar Staff

• The Vibe: Efficient, friendly, and responsible service.

• The Goal: Manage the drinks stock while ensuring a safe, legal environment.

• What You’ll Do: Serve wine and soft drinks, verify ages, and ensure the bar area stays tidy and hygienic, clean up after the performance and manage waste and rubbish.

• Where: Performance venue.

• When: 45 minutes before to 15 minutes after the performance.

About Us

Leyburn Jazz festival is delivered by BlueBoxt Creative and Performing Arts, a voluntary-run charity based in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire. 

We provide opportunities for children, young people, and the wider community to create, perform, and grow through the arts.
